Following a rain delay in Saturday night’s Queensland AMCA Nationals Title at Rockhampton’s Rocky Speedway, it was last season’s Australian Champion Matt Hardy who managed to master the tricky track conditions by claiming a hard-fought victory and a successful defence of the event.

With Mother Nature threatening to cancel this season’s running of the event, they were lucky to run their Queensland Title-deciding feature race, which saw Matt Hardy line up on pole position, despite being the second highest point scorer having scored three second-place finishes in his earlier heat races.

Thanks to his improved consistency and competitive pace throughout the 2016-17 season in the AMCA Nationals class, Terry Pankhurst has enjoyed one of the best seasons he’s had for some time.

Despite not having competed in all of the NSW Club Championship rounds and therefore being out of contention for the Championship, Pankhurst’s performance throughout the season has been a strong one, with the Central Coast-based racer impressively managing to visit the podium in seven of the eight race meetings he’s contested.

The impressive 2016-17 season continued for Jamie Collins, after he last Saturday night at Waikerie’s Sunline Speedway picked up the second South Australian AMCA National Title win of his career.

Off the back of so far this season taking out the Victorian Title at Ballarat’s Redline Raceway, a runner-up finish in the NSW Title at Gilgandra Speedway, finishing second in the Australian Title at Kalgoorlie International Speedway (WA) and most recently winning the King of the Murray at Mildura’s Timmis Speedway, Collins drove a smart race in tough track conditions to win the South Australian Title.

Last Saturday night’s South Australian AMCA Nationals Title at Waikerie’s Sunline Speedway resulted in Jamie Collins mastering the tricky track conditions to score his second state title victory of the season.

After a slow 2016-17 season start, Matt L’Huillier certainly found his form over the past fortnight, coming away with some impressive results in both the Australian Championship and the Western Australian Title for the AMCA National class.

Having had a difficult start to the 2016-17 season, struggling with a combination of misfortune and mechanical issues, L’Huillier couldn’t have been happier to turn things around in the Australian Championship on home soil – Kalgoorlie International Speedway – a fortnight ago, lining up 12th for the 40-lap feature race, after finishing sixth, second, fifth and second again in his heat races throughout the weekend.

Though it’s been a long and turbulent journey towards achieving his long-awaited ambition of winning an Australian AMCA Nationals Championship, it was all made worthwhile last weekend, when Tim Reidy claimed a well-deserved victory at Kalgoorlie International Speedway.

Claiming the chequered flag after a stellar performance in the two-night event, Reidy was filled with an equal wave of joy and relief, with his quest for Australian Championship Glory having certainly not been easy, beginning with his first three attempts in the event from 2009 to 2011 at Mildura’s Timmis Speedway (Vic), Murray Bridge Speedway (SA) and Dubbo’s Morris Park Speedway (NSW) failing to produce his desired results.

Newly-crowned Australian Champion Tim Reidy further cemented his status as the country’s leading driver on Friday night, taking out the Western Australian AMCA Nationals Title at Esperance Speedway.

With rain threatening to cancel the event, it was Victorian Reidy who managed to master the tricky track conditions in the feature race, coming away with the WA Title crown, off the back of his impressive Australian Champion victory at Kalgoorlie International Speedway the weekend prior. However, it wasn’t all smooth sailing for the Australian Champion.

David Boyes couldn’t have been happier to finish third in last weekend’s Australian AMCA Nationals Championship at his home track – Kalgoorlie International Speedway – becoming the first ever Western Australian-based racer to score a podium result in the event.

Off the back of a disappointing result in his maiden Australian Championship attempt at Murray Bridge Speedway in South Australia during the 2014-15 season running of the event, where he missed out on the feature race after finishing ninth in the B main, the current and two-time Western Australian Champion was thrilled to have well and truly made amends in his second attempt in the event.
